Arabic Text:

مَنْ قَامَ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ

“Whoever stands (in prayer) during Laylat al-Qadr with faith and seeking reward, his past sins will be forgiven.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab Fadl Laylat al-Qadr: 2014]

Key Points:

  1. The Great Virtue of Laylat al-Qadr:
    • Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Decree) is a magnificent blessing from Allah. Worship performed during this night surpasses the worship of a thousand months.
    • Allah states in the Quran:
“Laylat al-Qadr is better than a thousand months.”
      [Al-Qadr: 3]
  2. The Concealment of Laylat al-Qadr:
    • The exact night of Laylat al-Qadr was initially revealed to the Prophet (ﷺ), but its knowledge was later removed by Allah’s will.
    • This concealment occurred when two Muslims were arguing, as mentioned in the Hadith:
“While the Prophet (ﷺ) was coming to inform his companions about the specific night, two men were arguing. Due to this, its knowledge was taken away.”
      [Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab Fadl Laylat al-Qadr: 2023]
  3. Significance of Its Concealment:
    • The Prophet (ﷺ) clarified that this concealment is beneficial for the believers as it encourages them to strive harder in worship throughout the last ten nights.
  4. When to Seek Laylat al-Qadr:
    • Based on various narrations:
      • Laylat al-Qadr is most likely to occur on the 25th, 27th, or 29th night of Ramadan.
        [Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab Fadl Laylat al-Qadr: 2023]
      • It should be sought during the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.
        [Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab Fadl Laylat al-Qadr: 2017]
  5. Recommended Actions During Laylat al-Qadr:
    • Increase worship, including Salah, Quran recitation, and Dhikr.
    • Recite this special supplicationabundantly:
      اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عُفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
“O Allah, You are the Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive; so forgive me.”
      [Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Da’awat: 3513]

Conclusion:

Laylat al-Qadr is a unique opportunity for believers to gain immense reward and forgiveness. Its exact timing is concealed to encourage increased devotion during the last ten nights of Ramadan. Worshipers should intensify their efforts during this blessed period, particularly on the odd nights, and frequently make the supplication for forgiveness.
