Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Indeed, the womb (rahim) is derived from Ar-Rahman. Allah said: ‘Whoever joins you, I will join him, and whoever cuts you off, I will cut him off.’”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5988]
In another narration from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“When Allah created the creation and completed it, the womb stood up and said, ‘This is the station of the one who seeks refuge in You from being cut off.’ Allah said: ‘Yes, are you not pleased that I will maintain ties with the one who maintains you, and cut off from the one who cuts you?’ She said: ‘Yes, O Lord!’ He said: ‘Then that is for you.’”
Then the Prophet (ﷺ) recited:
[Sūrah Muḥammad: 22–24]
[Agreed upon: al-Bukhārī 5987, Muslim 2554]
ʿĀʾishah (رضي الله عنها) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“The womb (rahim) is hanging from the Throne. It says: ‘Whoever joins me, may Allah join him; and whoever severs me, may Allah sever him.’”
[Agreed upon: al-Bukhārī 5989; Muslim 2555 — wording from Muslim]
Ibn ʿAbbās (رضي الله عنهما) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Indeed, the womb is a branch clinging to Ar-Rahman. Allah joins with whoever joins it, and severs from whoever severs it.”
[Ḥasan: Aḥmad 2953, al-Bazzār 1883, al-Ṭabarānī 10/398]
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf (رضي الله عنه) narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say that Allah (عز وجل) said:
“I am Ar-Rahman. I created the womb (rahim) and derived its name from My Name. Whoever maintains it, I will maintain him; and whoever severs it, I will sever him.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ: al-Tirmidhī 1907, Abū Dāwūd 1695, Aḥmad 1681, Ibn Ḥibbān 443, al-Ḥākim 4/158]
✔ Upholding ties of kinship (ṣilat al-raḥim) is not only a moral duty but a divine connection to the Name and Attribute of Allah — Ar-Rahman.
✔ Severing ties of kinship results in Allah’s disconnection, curse, and removal of blessings in both this life and the Hereafter.
✔ True righteousness includes maintaining family bonds, even with those who may not reciprocate — as these ties are spiritually significant and are watched over by Allah Himself.
