Chapter: Kindness to Parents Is Among the Most Beloved Deeds to Allah
✿ Narration from ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd (رضي الله عنه):
He said:
“I asked the Prophet ﷺ: ‘Which deed is the most beloved to Allah?’
He ﷺ replied: ‘To perform the prayer at its proper time.’
I asked: ‘Then which?’
He ﷺ said: ‘Then kindness to one’s parents.’
I asked: ‘Then which?’
He ﷺ said: ‘Jihād in the path of Allah.’
Ibn Masʿūd (رضي الله عنه) said: ‘The Prophet ﷺ told me these, and if I had asked for more, he would have given me more.’”
(Muttafaqun ʿalayh: Narrated by al-Bukhārī 5970, Muslim 85)
Key Message:
This ḥadīth highlights the high status of kindness to parents in Islam, ranking immediately after prayer performed at its prescribed time and before even jihād in the path of Allah. It underscores the immense virtue and importance of treating one’s parents with compassion and respect.
And Allah knows best.
