Chapter: “On Granting Gifts and Aiding the Lost”
«باب ما جاء في المنحة وحماية الضال»
❖ «عن البراء بن عازب، يقول: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: من منح منيحة لبن أو ورق أو هدى زقاقا كان له مثل عتق رقبة»
[Ṣaḥīḥ: Reported by al-Tirmidhī 1957; Aḥmad 18516; authenticated by Ibn Ḥibbān 5096]
Narrated by al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib (رضي الله عنهما):
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
“Whoever gives a milch animal (such as a she-goat or a she-camel) as a grant, or provides a loan, or guides a blind or lost person to the path, it will be counted for him as the reward of freeing a slave.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ: Reported by al-Bukhārī 2631]
Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ (رضي الله عنهما):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“There are forty virtuous deeds, the highest of which is gifting a she-goat. Whoever practices any of these deeds, seeking reward from Allah and believing in His promise, Allah will surely admit him into Paradise because of it.”
✧ Comment by Ḥassān ibn ʿAṭiyyah:
“We listed some deeds related to gifting a she-goat, such as returning greetings, responding to a sneeze, removing harmful objects from the path, and similar actions. Yet we could not enumerate even fifteen of them.”
✔ Granting a milch animal or a loan is a high act of charity.
✔ Guiding the lost or blind is counted as a great deed.
✔ Even small acts — like returning greetings or removing harm from pathways — are part of a larger group of forty virtuous deeds.
✔ Acting on any one of them with sincere faith and hope in reward is a path to Paradise.
