The Virtue of Forbearance, Seriousness, and Moderation

Chapter: The Merit of Forbearance, Calmness, and Acting with Thoughtfulness

Allah (ﷻ) says:

«إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَحَلِيمٌ أَوَّاهٌ مُّنِيبٌ » [سورة هود: 75]

“Indeed, Ibrahim was forbearing, tender-hearted, and ever turning (to Allah).”

Narrated by Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنهما)

The Prophet ﷺ said to Ashajj, a member of the tribe of Abd al-Qais:
“Indeed, there are two qualities in you that Allah loves: forbearance and calm deliberation.”
[صحيح: رواه مسلم 17: 25]

Narrated by Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه)

The Prophet ﷺ said to Ashajj of the tribe of Abd al-Qais:
“Indeed, there are two qualities in you that Allah loves: forbearance and acting with calmness and thoughtfulness.”
[صحيح: رواه مسلم 18: 26]

Narrated by Abdullah bin Sarjis al-Muzani (رضي الله عنه)

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“A dignified demeanor, calmness, and moderation are one part of twenty-four parts of prophethood.”
[حسن: رواه الترمذي 2010، وعبد بن حميد 512]

Narrated by Abdullah bin Abbas (رضي الله عنهما)

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Good conduct, a dignified demeanor, and moderation are one part of twenty-five parts of prophethood.”
[حسن: رواه أبو داود 4776، وأحمد 2698، والبخاري في الأدب المفرد 791]
