The Virtue of Eating from One’s Own Earnings

❶ Narrated by al-Miqdam رضي الله عنه:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"No one has ever eaten food better than that which he eats from the work of his own hands. And indeed, the Prophet of Allah Dawood عليه السلام used to eat from the work of his own hands."

❷ Narrated by Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"Indeed, Dawood عليه السلام would eat only from what he earned with his own hands."

It is mentioned that Adam عليه السلام worked in farming, Dawood عليه السلام worked as a blacksmith, Nuh عليه السلام worked as a carpenter, Idris عليه السلام sewed clothes, Musa عليه السلام herded sheep, and Muhammad ﷺ engaged in trade.
Therefore, any lawful profession may be adopted.
❸ Narrated by Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"It is better for one of you to gather a bundle of firewood on his back than to ask someone, whether he gives him something or withholds it."

❹ Narrated by al-Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwam رضي الله عنه:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"It is better for one of you to take his rope, gather firewood, and carry it, than to ask people for something."

❺ Narrated by Aishah رضي الله عنها:
"The Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to work with their own hands, and because of the hard work, they would have a smell (of sweat) from their bodies. So they were told: If only you would take a bath."
