I am someone who constantly faces trials. What reward do I have for this?
Islam teaches that trials and tribulations are not merely hardships but opportunities for immense reward and spiritual elevation. The patience and contentment shown during such times are highly valued in the sight of Allah.
❶ Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (رضي الله عنهما) narrates that the Noble Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
"يود ناس يوم القيامة أن جلودهم كانت تقرض بالمقاريض فى الدنيا، لما يرون من ثواب أهل البلاء"
“On the Day of Judgment, some people will wish that their skins had been cut with scissors in the world, when they see the reward of those who were tested with afflictions.”
[Hasan: Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Book of Asceticism, Hadith 2402; Sahih al-Jami', Hadith 5484]
Shaykh al-Albani (رحمه الله) graded it Hasan.
❷ It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
"عظم الجزاء مع عظم البلاء، وإن الله إذا أحب قوما ابتلاهم، فمن رضي فله الرضا، ومن سخط فله السخط"
“The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. And indeed, when Allah loves a people, He tests them. So, whoever is content (with Allah’s decree), for him is contentment (from Allah), and whoever is displeased, for him is displeasure (from Allah).”
[Hasan: Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Book of Asceticism, Hadith 2396; Sunan Ibn Majah, Book of Tribulations, Hadith 4031]
Summary:
Trials are a sign of Allah’s love and a means of attaining elevated reward. Those who endure tests with patience and contentment are promised Allah’s pleasure and immense rewards in the Hereafter. The hadiths clearly show that enduring hardship with a content heart places a person among the most honored in the sight of Allah on the Day of Judgment.
