Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr states:
Some biographers of the Sīrah have written that when Abū Bakr (رضي الله عنه) said,
"If they look beneath their feet, they will surely see us,"
the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) responded:
"If they were to enter the mouth of the cave, we would exit from the other side."
Abū Bakr (رضي الله عنه) then looked towards the other side of the cave, and it had become spacious, with a sea connected to it, and a boat anchored at its shore.
Its chain is weak (اسنادہ ضعیف).
Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr comments:
"Considering the greatness and power of Allah ﷻ, this is not an impossible matter.
However, the narrative of the boat is not reported through any known chain of transmission.
We do not affirm anything from our own selves.
Only that which has a sound (ṣaḥīḥ) or good (ḥasan) chain of narration is acceptable.
And Allah knows best."
