Question:
Are ʿIlliyyīn a location in Paradise and Sijjīn a location in Hell?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʾAmma baʿd!
◈ In the famous ḥadīth narrated by al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib (رضي الله عنه), the mention of souls being recorded in the registers of ʿIlliyyīn and Sijjīn appears.
(Musnad Aḥmad 4/287–288, Ḥadīth no. 18533)
◈ The chain of transmission (isnād) of this ḥadīth is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ), as has been clarified earlier.
◈ Whoever’s name is recorded in ʿIlliyyīn is destined for Paradise.
◈ Whoever’s name is recorded in Sijjīn is destined for Hellfire.
