This article is derived from the book "Salah Mustafa ﷺ" authored by the esteemed Abu Hamza Abdul Khaliq Siddiqi.
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"When a man commits a sin, and then he performs ablution and prays, and then seeks Allah’s forgiveness, Allah forgives him."
Thereafter, the Prophet ﷺ recited the following verse:
وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُوا فَاحِشَةً أَوْ ظَلَمُوا أَنفُسَهُمْ ذَكَرُوا اللَّهَ فَاسْتَغْفَرُوا لِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَمَن يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَلَمْ يُصِرُّوا عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلُوا وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ
(Āl-Imran: 135)
"And those who, when they commit an immoral act or wrong themselves, remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins — and who forgives sins except Allah? — and do not persist in what they have done while they know."
(Sunan Abu Dawood, Book of Seeking Forgiveness, Hadith no. 1521 – Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Chapters of Prayer – Ibn Majah, Hadith no. 1395)
✿ Salah al-Tawbah (The Prayer of Repentance)
Upon committing a particular sin, if a person makes the intention of repenting from all sins, performs ablution (wudu'), and offers two Rak'ahs of prayer, followed by sincerely asking Allah for forgiveness, Allah سبحانه وتعالى forgives him.Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
