Whether the amulet contains Qur’anic verses or non-Qur’anic words, whether it is worn around the neck, tied to the arm, waist, or placed in a pocket — all such practices are ḥarām, dangerous to one’s creed, and a doorway to shirk.
This practice involves:
◈
Negation of tawḥīd
◈
Disrespect of the Qur’an
◈
Contradiction of the Sunnah
◈
Opening the door to bidʿah
Allah revealed the Qur’an to be read, understood, and practiced — not folded, wrapped in leather or plastic, and worn around the neck.
﴿ أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ ﴾
(al-Nisāʾ 4:82)
"Do they not then reflect upon the Qur’an?"
Hanging the Qur’an as an amulet is against tadabbur and a means of escaping from ʿamal (action).
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said clearly:
«مَنْ تَعَلَّقَ تَمِيمَةً فَقَدْ أَشْرَكَ»
"Whoever wears an amulet has committed shirk."
(Musnad Aḥmad – authentic)
This ḥadīth is general — the Prophet ﷺ did not add “unless it is Qur’anic.”
To declare permissible what the Messenger ﷺ labeled as shirk is a betrayal of dīn.
False leniency — saying “if the intention is good, it’s allowed” — is exactly what spread innovations.
Folding Qur’anic verses into papers and wearing them is an insult to the Qur’an’s true purpose.
If the Qur’an contains shifāʾ, it is through:
Not by folding it in paper and hanging it as a charm.
◈
The Qur’an is for recitation, not for amulets.
◈
Duʿāʾ is to be made directly, not tied on the arm.
◈
True healing is in tawḥīd and īmān, while amulets are the first step toward shirk.
Regardless of its form — Qur’anic or non-Qur’anic — taʿwīdh is absolutely impermissible.
It goes against the true purpose of the Qur’an, and is in clear opposition to the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ.
Those who try to justify it are weakening Islam and leading the people toward the brink of shirk.

Writing, wearing, or hanging amulets (taʿwīdh) — all absolutely prohibited
