The Secret of Accepted Supplications in Times of Hardship

Derived from: Fatawa Ulama-e-Hadith, Kitab al-Salah, Volume 1

❖ Question

If one constantly asks Allah during prayer and worship—especially seeking the companionship of a specific person—and faces difficulty in attaining it, what should one do? The supplicant trusts Allah and makes requests with conviction. What is the deed that can lead to having that person written in one’s fate? Kindly respond and help.

❖ Answer

The most powerful means of asking anything from Allah is through du‘a (supplication). Indeed, du‘a has the power to change destiny.

❖ How to Confront Hardships

The best way to overcome trials is through Salah (prayer).

Allah ﷻ says:
﴿وَاسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ﴾
"Seek help through patience and prayer."

If you are asking Allah for a specific person’s companionship, then perform frequent Salah and make abundant du‘a. This is among the most effective ways to attract Allah’s mercy.

❖ When Du‘a Seems Unanswered

If you feel your du‘as are not being answered, adopt an attitude of patience and gratitude with contentment in Allah’s decree.

Always remember: du‘a is never wasted. Its acceptance occurs in three ways:
Allah grants exactly what was asked.
He removes a hardship in return.
He stores the reward for the Hereafter—this is the best form of acceptance.

❖ Strengthen Faith During Delay

Knowing that Allah’s wisdom is always best, one must continue to make du‘a with firm belief and remain steadfast with patience.
