If you consider yourself an atheist while claiming to be in search of God, it means you are caught in a state of confusion regarding your own identity. Atheism denotes a denial of the existence of God. Therefore, if one is genuinely searching for God, the very foundation of atheism collapses. Certainty and doubt cannot coexist; they are mutually exclusive. Similarly, atheism and the pursuit of God cannot go hand in hand.
The journey towards God begins with a person's recognition of his own self. Just as someone asking for directions must first know their current location, likewise, when seeking the path to God, one must understand where they spiritually stand. If a person is unaware of their spiritual condition or the problems existing within their life, how can they ever find the path to God?
Allah has commanded human beings to understand their reality and acknowledge their mistakes. When a person confesses their faults before Allah and presents themselves humbly before Him, Allah draws them towards Himself — just as the ocean draws in a drop of water. Unfortunately, many of us do not make the effort to understand the word of Allah, nor do we speak to Him in our own language. If we begin to speak to Allah in our mother tongue and allow our soul to express freely, the love of Allah will take root in our hearts.
When you prostrate before Allah and communicate with Him in your own language, all the doubts and questions within your heart begin to dissolve. The message of Allah and His love penetrates your heart. And this is precisely where the true journey of seeking God begins.
