Narrated by Abu Shurayḥ al-Khuzāʿī al-ʿAdawī (رضي الله عنه):
He said to ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd ibn al-ʿĀṣ—who was dispatching military expeditions to Makkah:
“O commander! Allow me to relate to you a saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ proclaimed the next morning after the conquest of Makkah. My ears heard it, my heart preserved it, and my eyes witnessed it as he uttered it.
He ﷺ praised Allah and then said:
‘Indeed, Allah has declared Makkah sacred; the people did not make it sacred.
So, it is not permissible for any person who believes in Allah and the Last Day to shed blood therein, nor to cut its trees. If someone justifies fighting there based on the actions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then say to him: Indeed, Allah allowed His Messenger, but He did not permit you. He permitted me only for a short time during the day, and now its sanctity has returned just as it was before. Let those present convey this to those who are absent.’”
When asked what ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd said in reply, Abu Shurayḥ said:
“He told me: ‘O Abu Shurayḥ! I know that better than you. The sanctuary does not protect a sinner, nor one fleeing with bloodshed, nor one fleeing with treachery.’”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1832, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1354]
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of the conquest of Makkah:
“There is no migration after the conquest, but [there remains] Jihād and intention. When you are called to arms, then go forth.
Indeed, Allah made this city sacred the day He created the heavens and the earth. It will remain sacred by Allah's sanctity until the Day of Resurrection. Fighting was not permitted for anyone before me, and it was only permitted for me for a short portion of the day. It will remain sacred by the decree of Allah until the Day of Resurrection.
Its thorny plants must not be cut, its game not disturbed, and its lost items must not be picked up except by one who announces it. Its greenery must not be clipped.”
Al-ʿAbbās (رضي الله عنه) asked:
“O Messenger of Allah! Except for the idhkhir (a plant), as it is useful for our blacksmiths and houses.”
He ﷺ replied: “Except for the idhkhir.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1834, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1353]
Narrated by ʿĀʾishah (رضي الله عنها):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“There are five harmful creatures that may be killed in the Haram: the crow, the kite (vulture-like bird), the scorpion, the mouse, and the rabid dog.”
In another version:
“Five animals, all of which are evil, may be killed whether in the Ḥaram or outside:...”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1732, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1198]
Narrated by Anas ibn Mālik (رضي الله عنه):
On the day of the conquest of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Makkah wearing a helmet. When he removed it, a man informed him that Ibn Khaṭal was clinging to the coverings of the Kaʿbah.
He ﷺ said:
“Kill him.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1749, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1357]
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Makkah from the upper pass of Kadaʾ in the area of Baṭḥāʾ and exited from the lower pass.
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1500, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1257]
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the Kaʿbah with Usāmah ibn Zayd, Bilāl, and ʿUthmān ibn Ṭalḥah.
They locked the door behind them.
When it was opened, Ibn ʿUmar entered and asked Bilāl:
“Did the Prophet ﷺ pray inside?”
He replied:
“Yes, between the two Yemeni pillars.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1597, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1329]
He kissed the Black Stone and said:
“I know that you are a stone. You neither harm nor benefit. Had I not seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kissing you, I would not have kissed you.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1597, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1270]
When the Prophet ﷺ and his companions came to Makkah, the polytheists said:
“People are coming to you weakened by the fever of Yathrib.”
So, the Prophet ﷺ commanded them to briskly walk (r.a.m.l) in the first three circuits of Ṭawāf and to walk normally between the two corners.
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1565, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1266]
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, upon arriving in Makkah, would perform Ṭawāf starting with the Black Stone and would briskly walk (r.a.m.l) in the first three rounds.
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1603, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1261]
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Ṭawāf during his Farewell Ḥajj while riding a camel. He would touch the Black Stone using a hooked staff.
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1530, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1272]
The Prophet ﷺ would not perform istilām (touching) of any corner of the Kaʿbah except the two Yemeni corners.
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1529, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1267]
① Ifrād – Performing Ḥajj alone with a single intention.
② Tamattuʿ – Performing ʿUmrah first, then exiting iḥrām, and later re-entering iḥrām for Ḥajj.
③ Qirān – Performing both ʿUmrah and Ḥajj together in one iḥrām.
I asked Ibn ʿAbbās (رضي الله عنهما) about Tamattuʿ and he instructed me to do it.
I asked about the sacrificial animal.
He said: “A camel, cow, sheep, or a share in a blood sacrifice.”
Some people disliked it.
Then I saw in a dream someone announcing:
“A blessed Ḥajj and an accepted Tamattuʿ.”
When I told Ibn ʿAbbās, he said:
“Allāhu Akbar! This is the Sunnah of Abū al-Qāsim ﷺ.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1603, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1242]
