Does smoking a cigarette after performing wudu invalidate the ablution?
✦ No, smoking a cigarette does not invalidate wudu.
This is because cigarettes do not contain anything that would nullify the ablution. The established causes of invalidation of wudu include sleep, unconsciousness, urination, defecation, and the passing of wind. Smoking does not involve any of these nullifying elements.
✦ However, smoking does cause an unpleasant odor in the mouth, which can disturb others during prayer. Therefore, after smoking, it is recommended (mustahabb) to clean the mouth—either by rinsing it or using a miswak—so that the odor is removed and one can join the prayer with full concentration and humility.
① Smoking a cigarette does not break the wudu.
② It is recommended to rinse the mouth or use a miswak after smoking to eliminate bad breath, especially before joining in prayer.
