Ruling on Tips or Bonuses Given to an Employee Without Their Demand

An employee is obligated to perform their job with excellence because Allah loves those who work with perfection.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"Indeed, Allah loves when one of you performs a task, they do it with excellence."
[Sunan Al-Bayhaqi 4/344, Al-Sahihah, Hadith No. 1113]

If an employee:
Carries out their work with sincerity and competence.
Has no greed for additional payment.
Does not hint at or explicitly request a tip.
The employer voluntarily gives them extra money out of goodwill.

👉 Then there is no harm in accepting such a bonus.

However, if the employee:
❌ Deliberately neglects their duties, forcing the employer to pay extra.
❌ Hints at or explicitly demands additional payment.

👉 Then such a tip or honorarium becomes prohibited (Haram).
