The Ruling on Saying Bismillah Before Ghusl

Source: Based on the rulings compiled in the book 500 Questions and Answers for Women, translated by Hafiz Abdullah Saleem.

Question:
Is it obligatory to say Bismillah before performing Ghusl (ritual bathing)?

Answer:
Yes, reciting Bismillah before Ghusl is obligatory. Ghusl is a comprehensive act of purification that includes the requirements of Wudu (ablution). Since the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) stated that Wudu is invalid without saying Bismillah, the same applies to Ghusl because it serves as an equivalent or substitute for Wudu.

A person who does not say Bismillah before Ghusl will not fulfill the proper requirements of purification.
