يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُبْطِلُوا صَدَقَاتِكُم بِالْمَنِّ وَالْأَذَىٰ
[Al-Baqarah: 264]
"O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities by reminders of generosity or by causing harm."
When you give something as charity, do it solely for the sake of Allah. If it is not charity, then at least intend to strengthen ties between yourself and the recipient.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
"Give gifts to one another, and you will develop love among yourselves."
[Sunan al-Bayhaqi 6/196]
He (ﷺ) also stated:
"Gifts remove malice from the heart."
[Weak – Majma‘ al-Zawa’id 4/146]
