Ruling on putting drops in the eye while fasting:
Question:
If a drop of medicine is put in the eyes during the day in Ramadan, does it break the fast or not?
Fatwa:
The correct view is that the fast is not broken by this drop of medicine, although there is a difference of opinion among scholars on this issue. Some have said that if the taste of this drop reaches the throat, then the fast will be broken. However, the correct view is that the fast is not broken at all because there is no direct path from the eye to the stomach. Yes, if someone, due to the taste reaching the throat, chooses to make up for the fast out of caution and to avoid disagreement, then there is no harm in that, but the correct view is that the fast is not broken whether the drop of medicine is put in the eye or in the ear.
