What is the Shari‘ah ruling on performing Salah on the roof of a bathroom or toilet?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
There is no harm in performing Salah on the roof of a bathroom or toilet, because in modern homes bathrooms and toilets are not separate structures but part of the overall building and share the same roof.
Therefore, if a person prays on the roof of a bathroom or toilet, it is permissible and there is nothing in Shari‘ah that prohibits it.
This ruling falls under the general statement of the Prophet ﷺ:
((وَجُعِلَتْ لِیَ الْأَرْضُ مَسْجِدًا وَطَہُورًا))
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Kitāb aṣ-Ṣalāh, ḥadīth: 438)
Translation:
"The earth has been made for me a place of prayer and a means of purification."
Any part of the earth that is free from impurity and suitable for Salah may be used for prayer—including the roof of a bathroom or toilet—provided there is no impurity or offensive smell present.
