Healing through the Verses of the Quran

Question:

What is the ruling on using the Quran for healing purposes?

Answer:

There is no harm in doing so, as Allah has declared that the Quran, from beginning to end, is a source of healing and grants relief. This is affirmed in the words of Allah:

Evidence from the Quran

  1. Surah Yunus (10:57):
“O mankind, there has come to you instruction from your Lord, and healing for what is in the breasts.”
  2. Surah Al-Isra (17:82):
“And We reveal of the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers.”
  3. Surah Fussilat (41:44):
“Say, it is, for those who believe, a guidance and healing.”

Conditions for Effective Healing through the Quran

From these verses, it is understood that the Quran brings healing only to those believers who:
① Act upon it.
② Firmly believe in its divine origin.
③ Have complete conviction in its effectiveness as a means of healing.
④ Possess a heart at peace with this belief.

Additionally, the reciter (Qari) must:
  • Have a sound faith and adhere to the Quran’s teachings.
  • Be well-versed in the specific verses and chapters of the Quran used for healing, such as:
    • Verses that bring comfort and tranquility.
    • Verses that mention Allah’s names and attributes (Asma wa Sifat).
    • Verses emphasizing Tawheed (monotheism) and reliance on Allah (Tawakkul).

Method of Healing (Ruqyah)

The process involves the following steps:
  1. Self-Recitation:
The patient recites the verses upon themselves and blows over their body.
  2. Recitation by Another Person:
The reciter reads the verses and blows over the patient.
  3. Targeted Application:
The reciter blows directly on the afflicted part of the patient’s body and gently rubs it.
This process is repeated multiple times. With Allah’s will and decree, this method can heal all types of ailments, including:
  • Possession by jinn (jinn effects).
  • The evil eye (nazar).
  • Effects of magic (sihr).
  • Severe and chronic illnesses such as cancer, ulcers, or gangrenous limbs.

Practical Experience and Efficacy

While medical practitioners or common people may find such practices inconceivable, experience has proven its effectiveness. This serves as a compelling argument for its validity.

Allah knows best.
