The Ruling on Giving Interest-based Wealth in Charity and Spending on the Poor

Author: Dr. Muhammad Zia-ur-Rahman Azmi (رحمه الله)

Spending Interest-based Earnings on the Poor

Depositing money in interest-based banks for the sake of obtaining interest-based earnings is not permissible, regardless of the intent, because Allah (ﷻ) has forbidden interest and warned of severe punishment for it. The Prophet ﷺ cursed the one who consumes interest, the one who gives it, the one who writes the contract, and the one who bears witness to it.

Therefore, it is not permissible to take interest-based earnings with the intention of giving it in charity because it is unlawful and impure income. Allah (ﷻ) is pure and only accepts that which is pure.
