The Ruling on Drinking a Wife’s Milk

This content is derived from the book "500 Questions and Answers for Women," based on the fatwas of the scholars of the Haramain, translated by Hafiz Abdullah Saleem.

Question:

I married my cousin, and we love each other deeply. Our marriage is six months old. Whenever I am about to sleep, he begins sucking my breast as if he were a child. I tell him that this act is inappropriate, but he does not stop. I also do not press him too much to stop. What is the ruling on this matter?

Answer:

There is no harm in this action, as it is permissible for spouses to enjoy one another in any way, provided it does not involve acts that are explicitly prohibited by Allah.

However, such enjoyment must not cross the boundaries set by Shari'ah, including:
  1. Engaging in intercourse through the anus (dubr).
  2. Having intercourse during menstruation (haydh) or postnatal bleeding (nifas).
  3. Having intercourse while observing acts of worship such as fasting (during Ramadan) or pilgrimage (Hajj), where intercourse is explicitly prohibited.
  4. Engaging in intercourse before expiating (kafarah) for zihar (a specific form of prohibited speech about one's wife).
In the absence of any such prohibitions, enjoying one another remains permissible within the marital relationship.

Note:

This action, while permissible, does not result in establishing any foster relationship (milk kinship or radha‘ah) between the husband and wife.
