Ruling on Donating Blood for the Fasting Person:.
Question:.
Is it permissible to donate blood during the day in Ramadan, or does it break the fast?
Fatwa:.
If a person donates blood and a large amount is taken, then due to analogy with cupping, the fast will be invalidated. It should be noted that blood can only be taken in the case where it is intended to save the life of a patient or to preserve it for emergency situations. If the amount of blood taken is small, for example, just enough for a chemical analysis through injection and test tubes, then it does not break the fast.
