The Ruling on Calling Oneself Ahl-e-Hadith — A Shar‘i Clarification

❖ Question​

Is it sinful for a person to refer to himself as Ahl-e-Hadith?
What should a Muslim call himself?

❖ Answer​

All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. To proceed:


✔ There is no sin in calling oneself Ahl-e-Hadith.
✔ Such names are used only for identification purposes, not as replacements for the Qur’anic term “Muslim”.


هٰذا ما عندي، والله أعلم بالصواب
