Narration:
It is narrated from ʿAbd al-Rahman bin Samurah (رضی اللہ عنہ) that the Messenger of Allah (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) once came out to address the Companions (رضی اللہ عنہم) and said:
"Last night, I witnessed some extraordinary events. I saw a person from my Ummah surrounded by angels of punishment. Suddenly, his ablution (Wudu) came and rescued him from their grasp. I saw another person from my Ummah for whom the punishment of the grave was being extended, but then his prayer (Salah) arrived and delivered him from it. I witnessed another individual being troubled by devils, but his remembrance of Allah (Dhikr) appeared and saved him from their clutches. I saw someone from my Ummah who was thirsting with his tongue hanging out, but then his fasting during Ramadan came and quenched his thirst.
"I saw another individual surrounded by darkness from every direction—front, back, right, left, above, and below—but his Hajj and Umrah came and led him out of that darkness. I saw a person about to have his soul taken by the Angel of Death, but the goodness he had shown to his parents came forward and drove the angel away. I saw a person who tried to converse with the believers, but they would not respond. Then his act of maintaining family ties (Silah Rahmi) came forward, saying, 'This person used to join ties of kinship,' after which everyone began speaking with him, and he was included among them."
"I saw a person from my Ummah being turned away from the circles of the Prophets, but his ritual bath (Ghusl) for major impurity came and brought him to sit beside me. I saw another person shielding his face with his hands from the blazing flames, but his charity (Sadaqah) and good deeds came, forming a protective shade over him. I saw someone being surrounded by the guardians of Hell, but his act of enjoining good and forbidding evil arrived and freed him from their grip."
"I witnessed another individual being thrown into the Fire, but the tears he had shed out of the fear of Allah came and saved him from it. I saw someone whose Book of Deeds was flying towards the left side, but his fear of Allah came and made it land in his right hand. I saw another person whose scale of good deeds was light, but the children he had lost at a young age came and weighed down his scale of good deeds, making it heavy. I saw another person who had reached the edge of Hell, but his fear of Allah intervened and saved him from falling into it."
"I saw one of my followers trembling like a blade of grass, but his good thoughts about Allah ( حسن ظن باللہ) came and granted him peace and tranquility. I saw another person who could not remain steady on the Bridge (Pul-e-Sirat), stumbling and crawling. But then, his act of sending blessings (Durud) upon me came and straightened him up, enabling him to cross safely. Lastly, I saw someone who had reached the gates of Paradise, but the doors were closed. Then his recitation of the Kalima Shahadah (Testimony of Faith) came and opened the doors for him, allowing him to enter."
