❖ Common Claim
It is widely stated that when the Prophet ﷺ reached the age of eight, his grandfather ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib passed away.
❖ Authentication of the Report
This statement is mentioned in “Sīrat ke Sachay Motī”, page 56.
However, it must be noted that this report is based on the statement of al-Wāqidī, and:
✔ Al-Wāqidī is classified as “matrūk al-ḥadīth” (abandoned in ḥadīth transmission).
Thus, even though the Prophet’s ﷺ age at the time may have been close to that figure, it cannot be asserted with certainty or complete reliability.
