❖ Rebuke for Those Who Show No Mercy to Children

◈ ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ رضي الله عنه narrated:

قال رسول الله ﷺ: ليس منا من لم يرحم صغيرنا ولم يعرف شرف كبيرنا.

📚 Ṣaḥīḥ al-Tirmidhī, Abwāb al-Birr wa al-Ṣilah, Bāb Mā Jāʾa fī Raḥmat al-Ṣibyān: 1920

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“He is not from us who does not show mercy to our young and does not recognize the honour of our elders.”

✦ Explanation:

This ḥadīth is a severe warning and a rebuke to those who:

❌ Do not show affection, gentleness, or compassion to children.
❌ Fail to respect the elderly and acknowledge their dignity.

Such behavior is contrary to the character of a true Muslim, and the Prophet ﷺ disassociated himself from those who display such conduct.

✔ Summary:

Mercy toward the young is a hallmark of Prophetic character.
② One who lacks compassion for children is not upon the way of the Prophet ﷺ.
Respect for elders and kindness to the young are both obligations in Islamic social conduct.
④ This ḥadīth emphasizes the importance of emotional intelligence in building an upright Muslim society.
