The Obligation of Dawah and Islamic Preaching in Islam

❖ The Duty of Dawah and Tabligh

Dawah (inviting to Islam) is a collective obligation upon the Muslim Ummah. It is not merely a virtuous act but a commanded responsibility emphasized in the Qur’an and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

❖ Divine Command for the Muslim Ummah

Allah has declared the Muslim community as the best nation because of its role in spreading righteousness:

"You are the best nation brought forth for mankind: you enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and believe in Allah."
(Āl ʿImrān 3:110)

This verse underlines that calling to good and forbidding evil are foundational duties of Muslims.

❖ Prophetic Example

The entire life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was dedicated to calling people toward the path of Allah. His methodology was marked by wisdom, beautiful preaching, and kind debate:

"Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good preaching, and argue with them in the best manner."
(An-Naḥl 16:125)

This guidance from the Qur’an shows that Dawah should be done with compassion, insight, and grace.
