What is the ruling on keeping the name Nāṣir?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʿammā baʿd!
Allāh ﷻ has placed certain attributes within His creation, such as:
✿ Hearing (سَمْع)
✿ Seeing (بَصَر)
✿ Possession/Ownership (مُلْك)
These attributes also belong to Allāh ﷻ, but there is a clear distinction:
Hence, it is impermissible to equate the qualities of creation with the attributes of Allāh ﷻ.
If the name is constructed as ʿAbd al-Nāṣir (servant of al-Nāṣir), then Nāṣir refers to Allāh ﷻ.
If someone is named simply Nāṣir, it means: “a person who helps or supports others.”
Considering the above distinction, keeping the name Nāṣir is permissible.
In Islamic history, there have been numerous scholars, muḥaddithīn, and righteous figures by the name of Nāṣir, which further establishes the permissibility and acceptability of this name.
