"Among these erroneous customs is the preparation of kondas on the 22nd of Rajab. This custom originated in India and gradually spread to various countries and continues to do so. Mirza Sahib (the Shia jurist) acknowledged in his interview that he was a firsthand witness to the establishment of this custom in Lucknow, and it has no relation to the religion of Islam."
There is no evidence for this practice from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), or the scholars of Hadith. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stated in Sahih Bukhari:
"من احدث فى امرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد"
"Whoever introduces something into our religion that does not belong to it, it will be rejected." [Bukhari, Book of Peace: Chapter on Peace Agreements: 2697]
Therefore, it is essential to completely avoid such customs and innovations.
Question:
Are the kondas (a type of food) prepared on the 22nd of Rajab supported by Islam, and is there any legal evidence for them?Answer:
The practice of preparing kondas on the 22nd of Rajab has no legal basis in Islamic teachings. It falls under the category of customs and innovations (bid'ah) and was first established in Lucknow. Muhammad Hussain Najafi, a Shia jurist, notes in his book "Islah al-Rusum al-Zahirah bi Kalimat al-Ittizah al-Tahirah" [p. 283] that in the eighth chapter concerning the 22nd of Rajab's kondas:"Among these erroneous customs is the preparation of kondas on the 22nd of Rajab. This custom originated in India and gradually spread to various countries and continues to do so. Mirza Sahib (the Shia jurist) acknowledged in his interview that he was a firsthand witness to the establishment of this custom in Lucknow, and it has no relation to the religion of Islam."
