The Islamic Ruling and Warning for Women Wearing Perfume in Public

✿ Warning for Women Wearing Fragrance Outside ✿

Translation:

Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The prayer of a woman who applies perfume for this mosque will not be accepted until she returns and performs a full bath like that of major impurity (ghusl from janābah).”

❖ Grave Warning Against Public Display of Perfume by Women ❖

The Prophet ﷺ equated the act of a woman applying perfume and passing by gatherings to that of fornication. This is a severe warning indicating the gravity of the sin, especially when the perfume is used to attract non-maḥram attention.

◈ Key Points:

A woman wearing perfume in public is warned with a resemblance to a zāniyah (fornicatress).
Such an act nullifies the reward of ṣalāh unless she performs ghusl similar to that of janābah.
The Prophet ﷺ issued this statement as a deterrent, highlighting the severity of immodesty.

❖ Conclusion ❖

Islam commands modesty and chastity for both men and women. However, women are specifically warned against actions that may attract unnecessary male attention—one of which is applying fragrance while going out, especially to the masjid. The command to perform ghusl indicates the severity of the act and its spiritual consequences.
