❀ Sayyidah Khadijah al-Kubra (رضی اللہ عنہا)
Among the noble wives of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), the name of Sayyidah Khadijah al-Kubra (رضی اللہ عنہا) is always mentioned with immense respect and reverence. Her real name was Khadijah al-Kubra, and her title was Tahira (the Pure). She married the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) at the age of forty, while he was twenty-five years old. She remained in his blessed service for about twenty-five years. She passed away at the age of sixty-five, in the tenth year of Prophethood, during the month of Ramadan.
The mention of the mother of Zainab, Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthum, and Fatimah (رضی اللہ عنہم) is particularly significant, as it shows how the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم)’s daughters were educated and nurtured by their mother and what lasting impacts that upbringing had. The refinement, loyalty, patience, and gratitude that Sayyidah Khadijah al-Kubra (رضی اللہ عنہا) instilled in Fatimah, Ruqayyah, Zainab, and Umm Kulthum (رضی اللہ عنہم) was due to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) presenting his domestic life in such a way that her name will always be written in bold letters for raising these daughters with such virtues.
Her greatness is also evident from the narration in Sahih Muslim, which mentions that Allah (تعالیٰ) granted two great women in the human world an exalted status: Sayyidah Maryam (علیہا السلام) and Sayyidah Khadijah al-Kubra (رضی اللہ عنہا). Sayyidah Aisha (رضی اللہ عنہا), a beloved and pure wife of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), once noticed him in a sorrowful mood and asked why he remembered that old woman. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) replied:
“O Aisha! Do not say that. Allah (تعالیٰ) granted me love for her. When the people belied me, she believed in me. When people tried to abandon me, she supported me and assisted me.”
The very first person to embrace Islam was Sayyidah Khadijah al-Kubra (رضی اللہ عنہا), and she had the honor of being the first to offer prayers as well. Above all, she will always live on as the mother of Sayyidah Fatimah (رضی اللہ عنہا), the leader of the women of Paradise.
The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said that many men achieved perfection, but from among women, only four attained perfection — among whom was Sayyidah Khadijah al-Kubra (رضی اللہ عنہا).
(Sahih al-Bukhari)
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (رضی اللہ عنہ) narrates that Sayyiduna Jibreel (علیہ السلام) came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and said:
“O Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم), here comes Khadijah (رضی اللہ عنہا). She has with her a vessel containing food or a drink. When she reaches you, convey to her greetings of peace from her Lord and give her glad tidings of a palace of pearls in Paradise, wherein there will be neither noise nor any fatigue.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari)
