«باب فضل واصل الرحم على القاطع»
Abū Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) narrated that a man once said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ):
“O Messenger of Allah! I have relatives with whom I maintain ties, but they sever them. I treat them kindly, but they treat me badly. I behave with forbearance towards them, but they act ignorantly toward me.”
The Prophet (ﷺ) replied:
“If you are as you say, then it is as though you are feeding them hot ashes. And you will continue to have a supporter from Allah against them as long as you remain upon this conduct.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2558]
✔ The true virtue of maintaining kinship is not merely in reciprocation, but in upholding ties even when others break them.
✔ Doing so is like heaping burning ashes upon the severer — an imagery that signifies moral and spiritual superiority.
✔ Such patience and perseverance earn a continuous aid (ظَهِير) from Allah, so long as the person remains steadfast in kindness and forgiveness.
✔ This hadith highlights the magnitude of reward and divine support granted to those who choose compassion over retaliation in family matters.
