Chapter: The Importance of Parents' Rights
✿ Narration from Abū Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه):
He reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“A son cannot repay his father unless he finds him as a slave, then buys him and sets him free.”
In another narration:
“A son cannot repay his father.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ; Narrated by Muslim 1510)
✿ Narration from Abū al-Dardāʾ (رضي الله عنه):
A man came to him and said:
“I have a wife, but my mother is ordering me to divorce her.”
Abū al-Dardāʾ (رضي الله عنه) replied:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘The father is the best and middle gate of Paradise; so if you wish, you may lose this gate or guard it.’”
(Ṣaḥīḥ; Narrated by al-Tirmidhī 1900, Aḥmad 27511, al-Ḥākim 4/152)
Key Message:
These narrations highlight the immense importance of obeying and respecting one’s parents. The father’s role is likened to the main gate of Paradise, underscoring the virtue of showing kindness and obedience to him. It also shows that no child can truly repay the debt he owes his parents except in the most extreme circumstances.
And Allah knows best.
