By: Ubaidullah Tahir حفظه الله

📜 Hadith:

Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘As (رضي الله عنهما) narrates:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him:
“Fast one day and break your fast the next; that is the fast of Dawud (عليه السلام), and that is the most balanced form of fasting.”
He (Abdullah) said:
“O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I have the strength to do more than that.”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:
“There is nothing better than that.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari: 3418 | Sahih Muslim: 1159]

✦ Key Points:

Fasting every alternate day is known as Ṣawm Dāwūd,
✔ It is described by the Prophet ﷺ as the most moderate and just way to fast,
✔ Even when offered the chance to do more, the Prophet ﷺ affirmed:
"There is no virtue greater than this."

This highlights the value of moderation in worship, and the lofty status of the fasting routine of Prophet Dawud (عليه السلام).
