❷ Correct understanding of evidence and its implications lies only with the learned scholars, yet the layman has been given undue authority.

❖ The Modern Crisis of Reasoning and the Fitnah of the Common Man
In the contemporary era, the concept of "evidence" (dalīl) has been turned into a complex labyrinth, where endless arguments are dragged into every issue — whether it is usury, the suspension of jihad, the abolition of the caliphate, or the freedom of women. Through universities and media, the human intellect is molded into a specific framework and shown arguments from a particular angle, which appear more convincing to the average layperson. Consequently, even when a scholar presents views grounded in fourteen centuries of recognized Islamic tradition, they appear baseless in the eyes of the common man.❖ Scholars on Trial Before the Public
Today, the layman has been empowered to decide which argument is valid and which is not — leading to a situation where scholars are made to stand before the court of public opinion. In reality, however, the correct assessment of evidence and its implications lies exclusively within the domain of scholars. To ignore this and place the layman in a position of judgment is akin to appointing a non-professional to preside over decisions in surgery or scientific research.❖ Undermining the Status of Shari'ah Knowledge
The root of the issue is that Shari'ah is no longer recognized as a structured body of knowledge requiring scholarly capability. The “fitnah of the masses” is being imposed upon us in various forms, systematically weakening the authority and sanctity of Islamic knowledge.✿ Summary
