❖ Mention of the Name
In Ṭabaqāt Ibn Sa‘d, the descriptive name "al-Ma’mūn" has been mentioned for the Prophet ﷺ in an elegy composed by Hind bint Ḥārith, wherein she mourns his passing. The couplets read:
«لقد امتني من الانباء معضلة ان ابن آمنة المأمون قد ذهبا»
"A distressing news has devastated me: the trustworthy son of Āminah has passed away."
«ان المبارك والميمون فى جدث قال الحفوه تراب الأرض والحدبا»
"The blessed and fortunate one lies now in a grave, covered with the dust and earth’s garment."
❖ Ḥadīth Authentication
Chain of narration: Weak
Source Reference:
- Ṭabaqāt Ibn Sa‘d (translated), Vol. 2, p. 374
The weakness lies in the chain due to the narrator Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Wāqidī, who has been labeled as a fabricator (kadhdhāb) by the scholars of ḥadīth.
❖ Other Descriptive Names (Ṣifātī Asmāʾ) of the Prophet ﷺ
Apart from al-Ma’mūn, several other descriptive titles have been attributed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, such as:
«Fātiḥ……Mashhūr……Mahdī……Munji……Nāhī……Ṭayyib……Ḥafī……Manṣūr……Miṣbāḥ……Āmir……Ḥāfiẓ……Kāmil……Kalīm Allāh……Najī Allāh……Ṣafī Allāh……Maʿlūm……Muṭīʿ……Muḥarram……Mukarram……Madʿū……Shahīr»
