❀ Question ❀
What is the correct method of performing ghusl janābah? Is it necessary to perform masḥ (wiping) over the head and wash the feet during wudu in ghusl, or can the masḥ be skipped and the feet washed at the end? Are both methods valid? I seek a detailed explanation.✔ Sunnah Method of Ghusl Janābah
Based on the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the Sunnah method of ghusl janābah is as follows:① Washing the Private Parts
Begin by thoroughly washing the private parts (istinjāʼ) to remove any physical impurity.② Performing Full Wudu (Ablution)
Perform wudu as done for prayer, which includes:✔ Washing the face and arms
✔ Wiping (masḥ) over the head
✔ Washing the feet
This is the correct and complete form of wudu.
③ Pouring Water Over the Head
Then pour water over your head three times, rubbing the scalp to ensure that the water reaches the roots of the hair.④ Washing the Entire Body
Lastly, pour water over the entire body, ensuring that no part is left dry.✔ When There Is a Risk of Splashing
If you are bathing in a place where water splashes may soil the feet after wudu, you may delay washing the feet:◉ Perform wudu but leave out washing the feet.
◉ After completing ghusl, wash the feet at the end to avoid impurity from splashback.
✔ Skipping Masḥ Is Not Permissible
There is no evidence supporting the omission of masḥ during wudu. The head must be wiped during the wudu in ghusl just as it is in the wudu for prayer. Skipping this invalidates the wudu.❀ Summary ❀
◉ Masḥ over the head and washing the feet are part of a complete wudu in ghusl and are supported by Sunnah.◉ Washing feet at the end is allowed only if splash contamination is a concern.
◉ Skipping masḥ is invalid and contrary to the Sunnah.
