The companionship of the wealthy, observing people's sins, and the prohibition of migration for worldly gains

This excerpt is taken from the Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi by Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mosuli, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnoaat.

Prohibition of Keeping Company with Wealthy People

① Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to me:
إن كنت تريدين اللحاق بي فليكفك من الدنيا كزاد الراكب ، وإياك ومجالسة الأغنياء ، ولا تستخلعي ثوبا حتى ترقعيه
"If you want to meet me soon, then the amount of this world should be sufficient for you as much as a traveler has provisions for the journey, and avoid keeping company with wealthy people, and do not remove any garment before mending or patching it."

Prohibition of Looking at the Sins of People

① Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that he heard that Jesus, son of Mary, peace be upon him, used to say:
"Do not speak much except the remembrance of Allah, otherwise your hearts will become hard, for a hard heart is distant from Allah, but you do not know. Do not look at the sins of others as if you are their master, but look at your own sins as if you are a servant. Some people are afflicted with illness or trials, while others remain healthy. So have mercy on those who are afflicted and be grateful to Allah for your well-being."

Prohibition of migrating for worldly wealth and possessions

① Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab رضي الله عنه narrates, I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say:
إنما الأعمال بالنيات ، وإنما لكل امرئ ما نوى ، فمن كانت هجرته إلى دنيا يصيبها أو امرأة يتزوجها فهجرته إلى ما هاجر إليه
"Actions are judged by intentions, and every person will have only what they intended. So whoever migrates for worldly gain or to marry a woman, then his migration is for that for which he migrated."

② Sayyiduna Alqama ibn Waqas Laithi رضي الله عنه narrates, I heard Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab رضي الله عنه speaking from the pulpit, he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say:
إنما الأعمال بالنيات ، وإنما لكل امرئ ما نوى ، فمن كانت هجرته إلى الله ورسوله فهجرته إلى الله ورسوله ، ومن كانت هجرته إلى دنيا يصيبها أو امرأة يتزوجها فهجرته إلى ما هاجر إليه
"Actions are judged by intentions, and every person will have only what they intended. So whoever migrates for Allah and His Messenger, then his migration is for Allah and His Messenger, and whoever migrates for worldly gain or to marry a woman, then his migration is for that for which he migrated."
