The Caravan of 700 Camels of Abdur-Rahman bin Awf (RA) and His Spending for the Sake of Allah

Compiled by: Hafiz Muhammad Anwar Zahid Hafizullah

It is narrated from Anas (RA) that once, while Hazrat Aisha (RA) was sitting in her house, she suddenly heard a sound. She inquired, "What is that sound?" People responded, "The caravan of Abdur-Rahman bin Awf (RA) has arrived from Sham, bringing all kinds of commercial goods." Anas (RA) mentions that there were seven hundred camels in the caravan, and the whole of Madinah echoed with the noise.

Hazrat Aisha (RA) then said, "I have heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say, 'I saw Abdur-Rahman bin Awf in a dream, walking into Paradise on his knees.'"

When this news reached Abdur-Rahman bin Awf, he said, "If I am able, I will enter Paradise standing." Saying this, he gave away all the camels, including their saddles and the goods they carried, in the way of Allah.
