The Bed of Ali (RA) and Fatimah (RA) on Their Wedding Night

Author: Hafiz Muhammad Anwar Zahid (Hafizullah)

It is narrated by Jabir (RA) that he attended the wedding of Ali (RA) and Fatimah (RA). The house was beautifully plastered with high-quality clay. In front of them, raisins and dried dates were brought, which they ate. On the wedding night, the bed of Ali (RA) and Fatimah (RA) was made of a ram's hide.

[Mizan al-I’tidal: 210/4, 211, and narrated by Ibn Adi in Al-Kamil under the biography of Abdullah this]

Narrator Abdullah ibn Maymun al-Qaddah
The narrator of this story is Abdullah ibn Maymun al-Qaddah, a Meccan, who is reporting from Ja'far ibn Muhammad. This narration can be found in the collection of Tirmidhi. However, Abu Hatim has stated that he is considered to be discarded (matruk).

Bukhari mentions that his narrations are weak. Ibn Hibban states that if he narrates a solitary hadith, it cannot be used as evidence. Abu Zur’ah al-Razi has mentioned that his narrations are unreliable. [Mizan al-I’tidal, Vol. 2, p. 512]

Nasa’i writes that Abdullah ibn Maymun al-Qaddah is weak. [Al-Du'afa wa al-Matrukin by Nasa’i, p. 64]

Hadith Evaluation:
The chain of narrators for this narration is considered weak due to the questionable reliability of Abdullah ibn Maymun al-Qaddah, making this narration not an authentic source.
