10 Weak Narrations Related to Salah and Their Verification
(These Ahadith have been declared weak by Shaykh Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani رحمه الله)
Alḥamdulillāh! In Salah of the Prophet ﷺ, only authentic Ahadith have been used as evidence. The following narrations have been graded as weak by Shaykh al-Albani رحمه الله, and therefore they were not included in the book, even though they appear in some other works related to Salah.
Narration:
Anas (رضي الله عنه) reported:
"When the Prophet ﷺ entered the toilet, he would remove his ring."
(Abu Dawood 19, Tirmidhi 1746)
Ruling: Weak — Ibn Jurayj is a mudallis and narrates using "ʿan".
Narration:
Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salamah (رضي الله عنها) was asked:
"Can a woman pray in a long shirt and head-cover without a lower garment?"
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Yes, if the shirt is long enough to cover the tops of her feet."
(Abu Dawood 640)
Ruling: Weak — Umm Ḥarām, the mother of Muhammad ibn Zayd ibn Qunfudh, is majhool. Both the marfoo‘ and mawqoof versions are weak.
Narration:
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) reported:
"When one of you prays, let him place something in front of him; if he has no stick, let him draw a line. It will protect him from those passing in front."
(Abu Dawood 689)
Ruling: Weak — Both Abu ʿAmr ibn Muhammad ibn Harith and his grandfather are majhool.
Narration:
Ibn ʿUmar (رضي الله عنهما) reported:
"The Prophet ﷺ said: A menstruating woman and one in a state of janabah should not recite Qur’an."
(Tirmidhi 131)
Ruling: Weak — Isma‘il ibn ʿAyyash narrates munkar reports from the people of Hijaz, and his teacher Musa ibn ʿUqbah is Hijazi.
Narration:
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) reported:
"Under every hair is janabah, so wash the hair and cleanse the body."
(Abu Dawood 249)
Ruling: Weak — Harith ibn Wajeeh is da‘eef.
Narration:
"The Prophet ﷺ used separate water for rinsing his mouth and nose."
(Abu Dawood 117)
Ruling: Weak — Layth ibn Abi Sulaim is a mudallis and narrates using "ʿan".
Narration:
ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmir al-Juhani (رضي الله عنه) reported:
"Whoever performs wudu well, then looks towards the sky and says the Shahadatayn, the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him."
(Abu Dawood 169)
Ruling: The addition of looking towards the sky is weak — Abu ʿAqeel’s cousin is majhool. The rest of the hadith is authentic in Muslim (234).
Narration:
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) reported:
"No one should give the adhan without being in a state of wudu."
(Tirmidhi 200, 210)
Ruling: Both chains are weak — One contains Muʿawiyah ibn Yahya al-Sudafi (da‘eef), the other is munqati‘ as Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri did not hear from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه).
Narration:
Ziyad ibn Harith al-Suda’i (رضي الله عنه) reported:
"The one who gives the adhan should also say the iqamah."
(Tirmidhi 199, Abu Dawood 536)
Ruling: Weak — ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad al-Ifriqi is da‘eef.
Narration:
When Bilal (رضي الله عنه) said during the iqamah: "Qad qāmatiṣ-ṣalāh", the Prophet ﷺ replied:
"Aqāmahā Allāh wa adāmahā."
(Abu Dawood 528)
Ruling: Weak — "A man from the people of Sham" is majhool, and Muhammad ibn Thabit is da‘eef.

Narration:

② Woman Praying Without a Lower Garment
Narration:

Narration:

④ Menstruating Woman and Junub Not to Recite Qur’an
Narration:
Ibn ʿUmar (رضي الله عنهما) reported:
"The Prophet ﷺ said: A menstruating woman and one in a state of janabah should not recite Qur’an."

⑤ Washing Every Hair in Ghusl
Narration:
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) reported:
"Under every hair is janabah, so wash the hair and cleanse the body."

Ruling: Weak — Harith ibn Wajeeh is da‘eef.
⑥ Separate Water for Rinsing Mouth and Nose in Wudu
Narration:
"The Prophet ﷺ used separate water for rinsing his mouth and nose."
(Abu Dawood 117)
Ruling: Weak — Layth ibn Abi Sulaim is a mudallis and narrates using "ʿan".
⑦ Looking at the Sky and Saying Shahadatayn After Wudu
Narration:
ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmir al-Juhani (رضي الله عنه) reported:
"Whoever performs wudu well, then looks towards the sky and says the Shahadatayn, the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him."
