❖ Summary of the Narrative by Tariq Jameel

Tariq Jameel recounts that:

Saʿd al-Sulaymī (رضي الله عنه), a member of the Banu Sulaym tribe known for his dark complexion and unattractive appearance, was instructed by the Prophet ﷺ to ask ʿAmr ibn Wahb al-Thaqafī for his daughter’s hand in marriage. When Saʿd approached, ʿAmr harshly rejected him. However, his daughter, known for her beauty, insisted on obeying the Prophet’s command, disregarding race and appearance. She agreed to the marriage, which was finalized with a mahr of 400 dirhams.

This story is published in Dildchasp Islahi Waqi‘āt (compiled by Muhammad Arslan Akhtar, pp. 220–223) under Imān Afroz Islahi Waqi‘āt.

❖ Source and Chain of Transmission

The narration appears in certain works with the following chain:

"Suwayd ibn Saʿīd narrated from Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Kilāʿī from al-Ḥasan and Qatādah from Anas (رضي الله عنه)."

This narration is found in:

  • Kitāb al-Majrūḥīn by Ibn Ḥibbān (Vol. 2, pp. 291–292)
  • Al-Kāmil by Ibn ʿAdī (Vol. 2, pp. 2215–2216)

❖ Scholarly Criticism of the Narrators

Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Kilāʿī

  • Imām al-Ḥākim al-Naysābūrī said:

“He narrated fabricated Hadith from al-Ḥasan and Qatādah; narrated by Suwayd ibn Saʿīd.”
    (Al-Madkhal, p. 205; Lisān al-Mīzān, Vol. 5, p. 319)

  • Imām Ibn ʿAdī stated:

“He narrates rejected (munkar) Hadith from reliable narrators.”
    (Al-Kāmil, Vol. 6, p. 2215)

  • Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥibbān said:

    “He narrates extremely munkar Hadith.”
    (Kitāb al-Majrūḥīn, Vol. 2, p. 291)

❖ Summary of the Verdict

The narration elaborately presented by Tariq Jameel and attributed to Saʿd al-Sulaymī (رضي الله عنه) is, according to Hadith scholars, a fabricated (mawḍūʿ) narration. The chain includes narrators who are highly unreliable and discredited in the science of Hadith.

Conclusion:
This narration holds no credibility in Sharīʿah and should not be accepted or propagated.
