Some fabricated stories are popular among the public, such as:
It is commonly narrated that Khansa bint Amr (may Allah be pleased with her) lost her four sons in the Battle of Qadisiyyah. This story was narrated by Muhammad bin Al-Hasan bin Zabalah. See [Al-Isabah 4/288].
Regarding Ibn Zabalah:◈ Imam Yahya bin Ma'in (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
"And he was a liar."
[Tarikh Ibn Ma'in Riwayat al-Duri: 1060]
◈ Ibn Ma'in further stated:
"Enemy of Allah"
[Al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil 7/228, with an authentic chain]
He also said:
"He used to steal Hadiths."
[Al-Tarikh Al-Kabir by Bukhari 1/67, biography no. 154, with an authentic chain]
From this, it is clear that this narration is fabricated.
It is widely believed among some people that when Tareq bin Ziyad attacked Spain (Andalusia), he ordered the burning of the ships. This entire story of burning the ships is fake and fabricated. See: [Kutub Akhbar Rijal Ahadith Tahta Al-Mijhar, pp. 17-19].
