Question:
Is it permissible to speak while taking a bath in the bathroom? Some people strongly dislike talking in such situations. Please clarify.
Answer:
If there is a need to talk in the bathroom, it is not an issue. As mentioned in a Hadith from Sahih Bukhari:
"The Prophet (peace be upon him) was bathing when Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) came to him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, 'Who is it?' She replied, 'It is Umm Hani.'”
[Bukhari, Book of Ghusl (Bathing): Chapter on Concealing During Bathing in Front of People, Hadith 280]
From this Hadith, we understand that if someone speaks out of necessity, there is no harm. However, unnecessary conversation should be avoided.
