In sujood during prayer, can one recite any supplication, or only those specifically reported from the Prophet ﷺ?

Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
There are several authentic supplications reported in aḥādīth from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for recitation during sujood.
Therefore, one should recite from among those supplications that are authentically established from the Prophet ﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
«وَأَمَّا السُّجُودُ فَاجْتَهِدُوا فِي الدُّعَاءِ»
(Muslim, Bāb an-Nahy ʿan Qirāʾat al-Qurʾān fī’r-Rukūʿ wa’s-Sujūd; Abū Dāwūd, Kitāb aṣ-Ṣalāh, Bāb mā yaqūlu fī rukūʿihi wa sujūdihi; Nasā’ī, al-Iftitāḥ, Bāb al-Amr bi’l-Ijtihād fī’d-Duʿāʾ fī’s-Sujūd)
Translation:
“As for sujood, exert yourselves in supplication therein.”
Conclusion
- The authentic duʿāʾs reported from the Prophet ﷺ should be recited in sujood.
- One may choose from among them according to personal need and situation.
