Supplicating for Relief from Magic (Jadoo)

Compiled by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha (Hafizahullah)

Question:

I am afflicted with magic (jadoo). Will making dua benefit me in this situation?

Answer:

Yes, making dua will definitely benefit you, especially because you are in a state of oppression (being afflicted by magic). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized the power of the prayer of the oppressed. It is narrated:

"Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah."
[Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 1496]

Encouragement to Pray for Relief:

Given the Prophet’s ﷺ advice, making sincere dua is a powerful remedy. We and other Muslims are also encouraged to pray for one another, as it brings blessings and divine help. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“A Muslim’s supplication for his brother in his absence is always accepted. There is an angel appointed at his head who, whenever he prays for good for his brother, says: ‘Ameen, and for you the same.’”
[Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 2733]

Additional Steps for Protection:

  1. Recite the prescribed Quranic Surahs for protection and relief from magic:
    • Surah Al-Falaq
    • Surah An-Nas
    • Ayat al-Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah: 255)
  2. Regularly recite the following supplication:
أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
“I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He created.”

[Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith No. 3893]
  1. Stay consistent in morning and evening dhikr (remembrances of Allah).

Conclusion:

  • Dua is a powerful tool and directly connects the servant with Allah, especially in moments of distress and oppression.
  • Sincere supplication, combined with recitation of protective verses and trust in Allah’s mercy, will help overcome the effects of magic.
  • Trust in Allah, as no harm can persist without His will, and He is the ultimate protector.
