❖ Question:
How can Shayṭān be kept away from me?
❖ Answer:
Through the Sunnah supplication when leaving one’s home.
It is narrated from Sayyidunā Anas (RA) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever says when leaving his home:
بِسْمِ اللهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ
‘In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah; there is no power and no might except with Allah’,
it is said to him: You have been guided, you have been sufficed, and you have been protected,
and Shayṭān withdraws from him.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr, ḥadīth no. 2419; Sunan Abī Dāwūd with ʿAwn al-Maʿbūd 13/5073, 437; Sunan al-Tirmidhī 5/3486, ḥadīth no. 154)
❖ Summary
✦ Reciting this powerful duʿāʾ upon leaving your home not only ensures divine guidance, protection, and sufficiency, but also causes Shayṭān to retreat and stay away from you.
✦ It is a prophetic way to fortify yourself spiritually at the start of your daily affairs.
