Source: Shumara al-Sunnah, Jhelum

📜 Full Narration:

كلامي لا ينسخ كلام الله وكلام الله ينسخ كلامي ، وكلام الله ينسخ بعضه بعضا
"My word does not abrogate the word of Allah, but the word of Allah abrogates my word, and Allah’s word abrogates parts of itself."
[Sunan al-Daraqutni: 4/145, Hadith: 4277; Al-Kamil fi al-Du‘afa’ by Ibn ‘Adi: 2/180]

❌ Authentication Status:

➊ Fabricator:This narration is attributed to Jabrun ibn Waqid al-Ifriqi, a known fabricator.

🗣 Imam al-Dhahabi states:
"Mutahham (accused of lying). He shamelessly narrated from Sufyan, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir as a marfu‘ hadith: ‘The word of Allah abrogates my word...’"
[Mizan al-I‘tidal: 1/388]

Also graded as:
ليس بثقة – "Unreliable"
[Al-Mughni fi al-Du‘afa’: 1/127]

🗣 Ibn Hajar comments:
"I suspect the flaw in the hadith lies with Jabrun."
[Lisan al-Mizan: 5/161]

➋ Verdict by Scholars:

  • Imam Ibn ‘Adi: Declared it munkar (rejected)
  • Ibn al-Jawzi: Included it in al-Mawdu‘at (fabricated narrations) and maintained Ibn ‘Adi’s ruling
    [Al-Mawdu‘at: 1/125, Hadith: 190]
  • Imam al-Dhahabi: Clearly labeled it fabricated
  • Ibn Hajar: Supported al-Dhahabi’s verdict
  • Al-Hazimi: Classified as munkar
    [Al-I‘tibar fi al-Nasikh wa al-Mansukh, p. 28]
  • Ibn al-Qaysarani: Mentioned that Jabrun is munkar al-hadith (narrates rejected hadith)
    [Dhakhīrah al-Huffaz: 4/1920]

➌ Chain Issues:
  • Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah and Abu al-Zubayr are mudallis (ambiguous narrators)
  • There is no explicit statement of hearing (سماع) in this narration, further weakening its chain.

📌 Conclusion:

This narration — claiming that the Prophet ﷺ said his word does not abrogate the Qur’an — is fabricated and unacceptable. It cannot be used as evidence in any Islamic legal or theological context.
